July 5, 2024
The Honorable Joseph R. Biden Jr.
President
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear President Biden,
We write to you out of fear for the future of our country. We believe that nothing short of American democracy is at stake this November, and we are at risk of a devastating loss.
We admire your decades of public service and leadership. Your legacy will be one of rescuing our democracy from the deepest threats it has known since the Civil War and restoring decency to the presidency. To ensure that legacy is cemented, we ask that you pass the torch of leadership to the next generation of Democratic leaders by ending your reelection bid.
As members of the Leadership Now Project, and like-minded business and civic leaders committed to protecting American democracy, we have been vocal about the threats posed by a second term of Donald Trump. The risks to America are profound: global and domestic instability, abandoning our allies, crony capitalism, political retribution, and further erosion of the rights of women and other groups.
At this consequential moment for our nation, it is time to cement your legacy by passing the torch—just as George Washington did.
We respectfully urge you to withdraw from being a candidate for reelection for the sake of our democracy and the future of our nation.
Sincerely,
404 Signatures as of July 9, 2025, at 10 a.m.
