James Diossa is Rhode Island's General Treasurer, serving since 2023, and a candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 2026. Born in Central Falls to Colombian immigrant parents, he earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Becker College, became the first in his family to graduate college, and was elected to the Central Falls City Council at 24 before becoming mayor at 27 — the youngest and first Latino mayor in state history. He led Central Falls out of bankruptcy and back to fiscal health, and as Treasurer has managed the state's $13 billion pension fund, launched the RISavers retirement program, and eliminated $12 million in medical debt for Rhode Islanders.
