A Dartmouth College graduate with a J.D. from Harvard Law School, he worked as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, served in the North Carolina Senate, and was elected Attorney General in 2016 and reelected in 2020, where he led major opioid litigation and consumer protection efforts. As governor he has focused on public education investment, economic development, Hurricane Helene recovery for western North Carolina, and expanding healthcare access.
