Kris Mayes is the Democratic Attorney General of Arizona, serving since January 2023 after winning one of the closest statewide elections in state history by 280 votes. A Prescott, Arizona native, she studied political science and journalism at Arizona State University, worked as a political reporter, later served as press secretary to Governor Janet Napolitano, and was elected to two terms on the Arizona Corporation Commission from 2003 to 2010 before earning a law degree from ASU and a master's in public administration from Columbia University. As Attorney General, she has focused on consumer protection and antitrust enforcement, including a lawsuit challenging the proposed Kroger-Albertsons merger, along with efforts targeting fentanyl trafficking and elder abuse.
