Lauren Underwood is a Democratic U.S. Representative serving Illinois’ 14th Congressional District since 2019. A Georgetown University nursing graduate who earned her Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins, she served as a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the Obama administration, helping implement the Affordable Care Act. She was the youngest Black woman ever elected to Congress at the time of her 2018 victory, and serves on the Appropriations Committee, focusing on healthcare access, maternal health, veterans’ services, and lowering prescription drug costs.
