Hannah Pingree, Maine

Hannah Pingree is the Democratic nominee for governor of Maine in 2026, running for the open seat after Gov. Janet Mills was term-limited. Pingree holds a B.A. from Brown University and has spent more than two decades in Maine public service. She served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010, rising to Speaker at age 32 — at the time the youngest woman to hold the gavel in the chamber's history — and chaired the Appropriations and Health and Human Services Committees. In 2019, Gov. Mills appointed her to lead the newly created Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future, where she drove cross-agency efforts on climate action, housing affordability, workforce development, and economic recovery through 2025. She co-chaired the Maine Climate Council and oversaw development of the state's four-year climate action plan. Her campaign focuses on lowering costs for Maine families, expanding housing and childcare, and protecting Maine's economy and environment.
