Catherine Cortez Masto is a Democratic U.S. Senator from Nevada, serving since 2017 as the first Latina ever elected to the U.S. Senate. A University of Nevada, Reno graduate with a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law, she served as a federal criminal prosecutor before being elected Nevada Attorney General in 2006, where she served two terms combating mortgage fraud during the housing crisis, human trafficking, and domestic violence. In the Senate she serves on the Finance, Banking, Energy, and Indian Affairs committees, focusing on immigration reform, clean energy, housing affordability, and economic diversification.
