Phil McGrane is a Republican and Idaho's 28th Secretary of State, serving since January 2023. A fourth-generation Idahoan born in Pocatello, he holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Washington, a J.D. from the University of Denver, and a Master of Public Administration from Boise State University. He began working in elections in 2005 counting punch cards and training poll workers, later clerked for the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and served as Ada County Clerk before winning the statewide race in 2022 — notably defeating candidates who endorsed false claims about the 2020 election. He focuses on election security, public lands stewardship, and supporting Idaho businesses.
