Denise Powell earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Miami. A former corporate executive who left the private sector to focus on civic engagement, she co-founded Women Who Run Nebraska, a political action committee that has recruited and supported hundreds of women running for office across the state. She also served as communications director for Nebraska Loves Public Schools and as a partner at Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture. The first Latina to file for federal office in Nebraska, she won a competitive Democratic primary for the state's 2nd Congressional District.
