Derek Tran is a Democratic U.S. Representative serving California's 45th Congressional District since 2025, the first Vietnamese American from California elected to Congress. The son of Vietnamese refugees who fled after the fall of Saigon, he grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, enlisted in the U.S. Army at 18, and served eight years in the Army Reserve before earning a B.S. from Bentley University and a J.D. from Glendale University College of Law. He worked as a consumer rights and employment attorney, co-owns a pharmacy in Orange County with his wife, and focuses on lowering healthcare costs, protecting Medicare, and supporting veterans.
