Jake Johnson has spent 20 years as a high school math teacher at Rochester Public Schools, teaching courses from remedial math through AP calculus. Raised in Stewartville as one of 11 children in a working-class family, he grew up on food stamps and Medicaid, and his family lived in a Habitat for Humanity home after his stepfather's death. Named to the DCCC's Red to Blue program, he has drawn comparisons to Tim Walz, who was also a southern Minnesota teacher when he won the district in 2006. His priorities center on lowering costs for working families and farmers, defending public education, and expanding access to affordable health care.
